Brand VO2: Perspectives

Sustainable Development Goals

Sustainable Development Goals

Why am I a fan of the Sustainable Development Goals?

Because everyone is invited.

It’s not going to be easy, but the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) could well be our best bet yet, towards solving the 17 identified massive, global and interconnected challenges – together. And, while not perfect, they are darn close to the best idea to truly collaborate, engage and invite all parts of society around the globe to the ‘make the world sustainable for future generations’ party.

3 key reasons why I am a fan of the Sustainable Development Goals:

1. Common Language and Framework. The SDGs enable a unified approach to align action, foster collaboration, evaluate and track progress, and to identify and advance opportunities.

2. Global agreement. In a world with over 7.3 Billion people, coming to an agreement on 17 goals is an incredible feat. The SDGs enable us, as a society, to move past the picking and choosing – arguing over priorities, winners and losers. That work has been done. There are 17 goals identified, that work in conjunction and connection with each other, thereby they are all important. Sure – you may have your priorities or favorites. You may feel passionately that one is more important than another. That’s great – go do your part to help solve that one. Which brings me to my next point.

3. Something for Everyone. The SDGs don’t discriminate. There is something that every person, company, organization and government can and should be doing. With 17 Goals and 169 Targets, inaction, is not an option. The question is how and where to best plug in and get involved.
